Hello there! Let me tell you about Cod in the Drain.
The name Cod in the Drain is based on the idiom “fish out of water”. I changed “fish” to cod, and “out of water” to drain/in the drain.
The idiom “fish out of water” means being completely clueless or directionless when put into unfamiliar surroundings or an unfamiliar situation.
Cod in the Drain is a blog that doesn’t really have a proper direction as to what it’s trying to accomplish. This blog can include anything, like gaming, anime, memes, current events, and more.
Stay tuned for more content! (If there’ll ever be)

(Side note: This blog is actually school-related, meaning that every like, comment, and follower is counted and they are worth for some points. Every like is much appreciated!)
I see you’ve clicked on my post. Feel at home, I guess.
Waking up at 3 am, random thoughts come at my head. Here in The Cod Pond, we will ponder about interesting things and stuff.
Listen to calm beats while reading. Here’s one for you.
Whenever I come up with an idea, like for a project or something, I start to speculate more about it, and my mind drifts to existential things. These thoughts had always been stuck to my head since I was a high school student, and it continues to stay so. There are about 7.73 billion people on Earth today, according to Worldometers , each with unique and wonderful minds. That number doesn’t even include the many generations of people born before. These billions of minds think everyday, observant of the things that happen around them and creating ideas of what they think of the world, too.
In history, great minds like Aristotle, Confucius, Einstein, and many more introduced ideas that were revolutionary and changed our perspective of the world. Their ideas may be influenced by factors in their lives, their observations and experiences, that resulted in them gaining the idea, like how Newton discovered the existence of gravity because of his observation of the apple that fell from the tree. Sometimes, I begin to ponder. Since all of us think and generate many ideas in our life, maybe every idea that we will ever think have already been thought by another person first.
Could this mean that we could not say that the ideas of the famous philosophers, of people, and yourself, are truly original? I mean, the possibilities are endless. They might be exposed to the same factors that led you to your idea, thus also thinking the same idea that you had.
As I’ve done my research on the subject, I’ve found some websites that enlightened me on the idea of “originality”. There, it said,
Twain wrote that, ‘The kernel, the soul, let us go further and say the substance, the bulk, the actual and valuable material of all human utterances is plagiarism.” Twain believed that there was no such thing an original thought or an original idea, because every subject on Earth had been pored over, written about and analyzed.
Does that mean that originality itself is a myth, and that no creative idea exists independent of another idea? The answer is yes and no. Yes, there are original ways to express thoughts, ideas, concepts and philosophies, but no, the actual subject upon which these thought, ideas, concepts and philosophies are based on, are not original.
It further supported my previous claim, that since everything has already been thought of, there are no original ideas anymore.
In a June 2012 article in The Guardian, once-celebrated German author Helene Hegemann, who published her debut novel at 17 to rapturous reviews, but was later outed for having lifted some sentences from another book, said pointedly: There’s no such thing as originality, just authenticity.
Could this also mean that time is already predetermined, only designed to go on one path, even with different variables? Maybe, in other realities, if Einstein never existed, or went to another path in life, could another person have come up with his General Theory of Relativity? Will there be revisions on the other person’s version? If the first person who would’ve discovered fire failed, could another prehistoric man had done it?
Is this how the laws surrounding the universe correct itself? When a part goes missing, will it find another and continue its purpose? Will it only follow a singular, yet diverse path, full of many variables yet only resulting on one outcome?
For anyone who is willing to learn, especially us students, studying is an important thing that we should do in order to gain knowledge. It helps us in our school work, research, and others.
But sometimes, we tend to have difficulties in studying. There may be some information that is very hard to understand and digest with your current study technique. That is why I am here to tell you some tips for effective studying, some based from my own experiences as well as from others.
Avoid cramming. Admit it, we’ve all at least done it once because we forgot to study in advance for an upcoming exam. And while it is helpful when we have only little time to study, it really isn’t advisable. You will over exhaust yourself, physically and mentally. There will be some tendencies where you will forget what you’ve studied through cramming sessions. Click here to learn more on why cramming is such a bad idea.
Study while in a “flow state of mind”. If you’ve played games before, and you get to a certain point where you become perfectly focused at what you are doing, that nothing else seems to matter, and you give it your full attention, what you had experienced is basically what some people call “the flow state of mind”. The flow state is where your brain gives its full attention to something, and you might feel a sense of hyper awareness and focus to the task at hand. Once you have that kind of mindset while studying, you can easily digest all of the information that you want to learn. To attain this state of mind, it requires focus and a calm mind. Here’s a link to know more about the Flow State.
Have a group study with friends. Having group discussions can help you and your friends brainstorm ideas on the certain topic that you are studying. Studying with friends can also make the task less difficult, and because you are at ease, you can study more effectively, with the help of your friends. There are many things that you can go with this, such as having question-and-answer games, mini reports, and many more. This really helped a lot in my high school days, and still now in my senior high years.
Use visual and textual aids. Flashcards, sticky notes, and PowerPoint presentations are great examples of this. With visual and textual aids, you can easily digest the information without difficulty. It can help highlight main ideas, emphasize essential phrases, and as well as summarize the whole topic into simple sentences. It could also be handy to have a friend or two while doing so. You can search some PowerPoint presentations of the topic that you’re studying on the internet.
Find other sources and summaries in other media. If the current source and medium that you have for the topic may be a bit difficult for you to understand the topic, try finding other sources. The internet can help you find websites with information that can help you understand the topic. A great example of this is Google. You can also go to different media, like other platforms such as Youtube, reading other books, and many more. Summaries of the topic can be helpful too in order to have a much better understanding of the topic.
These tips has always helped me in my studies, so I hope this post helps you, too! Leave a comment below if you have other tips. I’d also like to hear different studying techniques from other people!
Do you ever feel like breaking down mentally due to pressure and abnormally high expectations of others? Well congratulations, what you are experiencing is the ever-occurring nightmare we call stress.
So what exactly is stress? Well, according to my research, stress is what you feel when you react to pressure. The pressure can come from events in your life, from other people, or even from yourself.
A lot of people experience stress everyday. You, me, all of us, we have all went through it. There are a lot of factors that can cause stress. For me, and all the students out there, the usual cause is school work. Near deadlines, difficult tasks, it all makes my brain want to commit step on Lego. But even though, I still manage to deal with it through various means. Here, we will discuss what we can do to overcome stress, or at least cope with it.
One of the things that I do is engaging in what I love to do, like watching memes, playing Minecraft, drawing stuff, and anime. If you have a hobby, like playing sports or something, you can use that to calm yourself and cope with the stress.

Second is by listening to calm and relaxing music. Whenever you are experiencing stress, music can calm your nerves. I sometimes listen to lo-fi music when I do school work, and it helps me feel relaxed and stay productive.
Another thing that you can do beforehand is having proper time management. Whenever new tasks come up, we tend to mix up our schedules, and that further causes more stress. With better time management, you can finish your tasks efficiently and prevent work overload.
Always remember that even though stress might only be psychological, it can also affect our physical health. Have a friend that can comfort you from life’s burdens. Keep healthy and stay happy!
Here’s a little something for you to lighten up your day.
